Dungeons & Dragons was created by Ernest Gary Gygax and David Arneson in 1974 and quickly grew in popularity over the next several years through word of mouth.[1][2]
Its popularity eventually led to themed figurines, books, TV shows, and movies.[1] To date, it’s generated around a billion dollars in revenue.[3]
Lake Geneva, the birthplace of Dungeons & Dragons, even has a museum dedicated to this tabletop role-playing game.[2][3]
The Dungeons Hobby Shop Museum operates out of the same building that was used as the original D&D headquarters![3]
Whether you’re a long-time player or new to the game, choosing a campaign name is an essential step in building your storyline.

How to Choose Your DnD Campaign Name
Campaigns can take quite a while, so you want to be sure and pick a name everybody will be happy with for the long haul.
Keep these tips in mind when choosing the right name for your Dungeons & Dragons campaign:
- Take a vote. If everyone involved in the campaign has different opinions, have each person vote for their favorite campaign name. This should at least help you narrow it down to the top two or three options. You might even want to use ranked-choice voting to make choosing the option that will please most of the group easier.
- Choose your favorite name from our list and substitute characters. If you loved a campaign title on our list but not necessarily the character type mentioned, simply switch it out for your character of choice. For example, “Rise of the Barbarians” could easily become “Rise of the Druids.”
- Consider starting the game before you choose a name. You never know exactly what will happen in a Dungeons & Dragons game. It may be helpful to start the game, get a feel for which direction it’s headed, then choose a campaign name.
- If all else fails, take turns. If your group is still struggling to agree on a name, why not take turns naming campaigns? That way, everyone gets the chance to use their favorite, and you can look forward to joining each other again for future campaigns.
